MADAME ALEXANDER DOLL

Beatrice Alexander (1895-1990) was the first to create "collectible" dolls based on licensed characters such as Scarlett O'Hara from the book and film Gone With The Wind. Her dolls were the most popular American toy for the 1920-1929 decade. She also produced dolls based on book characters such as Heidi, as well as living celebrities such as the famous Dionne quintuplets in 1936, and Queen Elizabeth II for her coronation in 1953.
