A construction set is a collection of separate pieces that can be joined together to create models such as houses, vehicles, and bridges. The object is to build things of one's own design, and old models often can be broken up and the pieces reused to make something else.

The oldest, and perhaps most common construction toy is a set of simple wooden blocks. Construction sets such as Lego bricks,Tinkertoys, Lincoln Logs, and Erector sets became very popular in the United States in the Twentieth Century.
